Cianjur, Indonesia Sentinel — A 12-year-old boy was found dead under a bridge in Kampung Bogem, Sirnagalih Village, Sindangbarang District, Cianjur, Indonesia, after consuming a deadly cocktail of pure alcohol and energy drinks.
The victim, who traveled from Pagelaran to Sindangbarang on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, met up with his friends, identified as (20), MF (19), R (20), and AR (29). According to local police, the group purchased 70% antiseptic alcohol from a nearby pharmacy multiple times, totaling seven bottles.
“The victim and his friends bought alcohol four times from the same pharmacy, collecting seven bottles in total,” said AKP Dadang Rustandi, Head of Sindangbarang Police, on Thursday, February 13, 2025.
The group mixed the alcohol with mineral water and energy drinks before consuming it. They reportedly drank the mixture from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM.
“The victim and his friends drank the concoction together. Shortly after, they felt dizzy, nauseous, and weak,” Rustandi added.
Seeking rest, they moved to a spot under a nearby bridge, where they fell asleep. Later, R and AR tried to wake the victim but discovered he was unresponsive.

The tragic incident has sparked public outcry and renewed concerns over underage drinking and the accessibility of harmful substances. Authorities are investigating the pharmacy’s compliance with regulations and whether the sale of antiseptic alcohol violated any laws.
The police are also questioning the victim’s friends to gather more details about the incident. The case highlights the dangers of consuming non-beverage alcohol and the urgent need for better education on substance abuse among youth.
