Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel – – The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has successfully evacuated 91 Indonesian citizens (WNI) from Syria, spread across three flights. The evacuees were first transported by land from Damascus to Beirut under the escort of Indonesian Embassy diplomats.

According to the ministry’s official statement, the evacuations occurred on December 20 and 21, 2024. The majority of evacuees include migrant workers and students from regions such as Aceh, North Sumatra, Riau, Jambi, Lampung, Jakarta, Banten, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Bali, and West Nusa Tenggara.

“With the completion of this final evacuation wave, a total of 156 Indonesian nationals have been safely evacuated from Syria since the political transition began. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Damascus continue to track and document Indonesians who may still be in Syria but have not yet registered,” the statement read on Sunday, December 22, 2024.
