Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — International concert ticket in Jakarta continue to sell out despite their steep prices, with fans willing to pay for the experience. For instance, tickets to Linkin Park’s upcoming concert at Jakarta’s Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium on February 16, 2025, range from IDR 1.25 million ($80) to IDR 3.95 million ($250). The phenomenon raises questions, especially amid concerns about weakened consumer purchasing power.
According to Nailul Huda, Director of Digital Economy at the Center of Economic and Law Studies (Celios), this trend can be attributed to the distinct nature of entertainment consumption compared to essential goods.
“When it comes to music concerts, it’s not just about the price. Consumers derive unique satisfaction from entertainment, so ticket demand remains high even when prices are steep,” Nailul told Beritasatu.
He explained that leisure-related expenses follow different consumption patterns. Fans are often willing to spend on concerts they consider significant, regardless of broader economic conditions.
“Many wonder why tickets sell out while overall purchasing power declines. The reason is that concerts are not just expenses; they fulfill personal satisfaction and provide memorable experiences. When someone deeply admires a band, ticket prices become less of a deterrent,” Nailul added.
The pricing of concert ticket largely depends on decisions made by artists and event promoters. Increased competition among promoters and more available venues could help reduce operational costs, potentially leading to lower ticket prices.

“The more promoters operating in Indonesia, the greater the chance of attracting international artists. More players in the industry foster competition, which can streamline operations and create more competitive ticket prices,” Nailul explained.
He emphasized that dedicated fans view ticket costs as secondary to the emotional and experiential value of concerts.
“Just like soccer fans who spend heavily to watch their favorite teams live, music enthusiasts are similarly motivated. Many K-pop fans, for instance, travel to South Korea solely to see their idols perform. Concerts are a lifestyle choice and a source of personal satisfaction,” Nailul concluded.
