Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel – The moment of Christmas 2021 and New Year’s 2022 (Nataru) this time feels looser than the previous year. This is in line with the cancellation of the Level III Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) at that moment.

This decision has sparked debate in the community. This is because during the Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha holidays, 1443 Hijri, all community activities are subject to very strict restrictions.

The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy explained that the easing during the Nataru holiday was due to the Covid-19 condition in Indonesia which was getting better.

He explained that the national daily confirmed case data in the last two weeks had decreased with an average of around 100-300 cases per day. In addition, the trend of the positivity rate is also getting lower, which is below one, 0.1-0.2%. This is very different from the situation last year, in the same period our positivity rate a year ago reached 13.6%.

The positivity rate is the ratio between the number of positive cases of Covid-19 and the number of tests carried out. WHO sets the minimum threshold for the positivity rate of less than 5 percent. The lower the positivity rate of an area, the better the pandemic condition.

In addition, the achievement of the first dose of vaccination has reached 159,803,372 people or 76.73% of the target, and 111,177,232 people have received the second dose of vaccination or 53.38% of the target, and for the third dose, it has reached 1,303,225 or 0.63%. , out of a total target of 208,266,720 Indonesians (Ministry of Health Data, 27 December 2021).

“This is why we have the confidence to open people’s movements more freely this Christmas and New Year,” said the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture when delivering directions during the 2-Year Reflection on Muhammadiyah’s Role in Pandemic Handling, online, on Tuesday. (28/12).

The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture hopes that after the holiday, the current sloping Covid-19 condition will be well maintained. He asked the public not to be careless and continue to apply health protocols. In addition, the government also continues to be accelerated to achieve the national target.

“We hope is that we can maintain this condition properly. Then next year, God willing, Eid can run normally. At least we can hold it like Christmas today,” he said.

The Important Role of CSOs in the Pandemic and Human Development

The emergence of the Omicron variant in Indonesia is suspected to have another effect on the condition of the Covid-19 case. Therefore, the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture has warned all parties not to neglect other human development sectors. For example in the economic sector to keep running, as well as handling in other health sectors such as handling cases of Tuberculosis (TB), handling maternal and child nutrition, handling stunting, and handling HIV.

He hopes that the pentahelix collaboration consisting of the government, the private sector, universities, community organizations, and the mass media, can fully contribute to controlling Covid-19 and Indonesia’s human development.

“Including the involvement of Muhammadiyah as a community organization that has a hospital, has a university, all of which have a very large contribution and have significant meaning,” he said.

On the occasion of the online meeting, the General Chairperson of PP Muhammadiyah Hardar Nashir, General Chairperson of PP Muhammadiyah’s Muhammadiyah Covid Command Center (MCCC) Agus Samsudin, Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Study Center Bachtiar Dwi Kurniawan, Professor of Islamic Politics in Political Science UMY Sunyoto Usman, Deputy Assistant Mobeter and External Sector of the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy Ferry Irawan.
