Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) has allocated Rp2.098 billion in aid for flood affected areas in Jakarta, Bogor, and Bekasi. The aid comes following severe flooding across Greater Jakarta area (Jabodetabek) especially in Jakarta, Bogor, and Bekasi.

Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf stated that the aid has been distributed since Monday (March 3), with logistics dispatched directly from the main warehouse in Bekasi.

“We have distributed aid to flood-affected areas in Greater Jakarta, particularly in Jakarta, Bogor Regency, and Bekasi. We have also set up public kitchens,” he said in an official statement on Tuesday (March 4).

For Bogor Regency specifically, Kemensos sent 500 ready-to-eat meal packages, 500 side dish packages, 100 mattresses, 100 roll-up tents, 150 blankets, 150 children’s supply kits, and 150 family kits. The total value of the first phase of aid reached Rp308.5 million.

Today, additional aid has been delivered to Bojongkulur Village in Gunung Putri, Bogor Regency. This includes 2,000 ready-to-eat meal packages, 200 children’s supply kits, 300 blankets, 200 mattresses, and 100 family kits, totaling Rp451.1 million.

Additionally, Kemensos has sent 2,000 ready-to-eat meal packages, 100 children’s supply kits, 200 blankets, and 100 mattresses to flood victims in Bekasi. The Rp523 million aid package was specifically allocated for the Jatiasih subdistrict in Bekasi.

“We have also deployed three rubber boats equipped with engines to assist in the ongoing evacuation efforts,” said Gus Ipul.

The Ministry of Social Affairs hopes that the aid will help meet the basic needs of affected residents, especially during this emergency flood situation.

Severe Flooding across Greater Jakarta

The heavy rainfall that drenched particularly Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) since March 3, 2025 has caused severe flooding. Several rivers overflowed, inundating residential areas in Jakarta and its surrounding regions.

Bekasi has been among the hardest-hit areas in the recent floods, with Mayor Tri Adhianto describing the situation as worse than the severe floods of 2016 and 2020.

The primary cause of the flooding was the rising water level in the Bekasi River, which overflowed into streets and residential areas. Of the city’s 12 districts, eight were severely affected, with main roads and even government offices submerged.

The Bekasi Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that torrential rain since Monday evening (March 3, 2025) led to flooding in 20 locations across seven districts. Water levels varied, with the deepest point reaching 3-4 meters.

Meanwhile, in Jakarta, the flooding has continued to spread. The Jakarta BPBD reported that as of Tuesday (March 4), at least 122 neighborhood units (RT) and two major roads in the capital were underwater.

Although floodwaters had begun to recede by Wednesday, Jakarta BPBD personnel remained on the ground to monitor water levels and ensure residents’ safety.

The flooding in Jakarta was triggered not only by heavy rainfall but also by overflow from the Ciliwung River, which received a surge of water from upstream areas in Bogor.

Over the past few days, torrential rains have pounded Bogor’s highlands, causing the Katulampa Dam to reach its highest alert level. Bogor’s mayor had earlier warned that floodwaters would likely flow downstream to Jakarta.

BMKG predict that the extreme weather in Indonesia will continuous to persist until late March. BMKG warns residents to remain vigilant as hydrometeorological disaster such as flood remain a threat due to prolonged extreme weather across Indonesia.
