Jakarta Indonesia Sentinel — Indonesia’s state-owned gas company PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) is expanding access to clean energy by extending its Natural Gas Distribution Network (Jargas) to three additional residential clusters in South Tangerang.

The expansion of residential gas network aims to increase the number of households benefitting from natural gas, which is marketed as a cleaner, safer, and more cost-efficient alternative to traditional cooking fuels.

“With this pipeline network, residents can access natural gas that is continuously available and more affordable,” said Heny Purwati, PGN’s Area Head for Tangerang, in a written statement released Sunday (April 13).

“Through jargas, we believe every household can enjoy a more practical and comfortable lifestyle.”

PGN has been promoting jargas as part of its broader mission to bring clean energy directly to homes across Indonesia. According to Heny, availability is one of the main advantages of the system, particularly during national holidays such as Eid al-Fitr, when consistent energy supply becomes essential.

“Customer safety is our top priority. PGN will ensure a stable gas supply, so families especially mothers can cook with peace of mind,” she added.

Currently, PGN has recorded over 10,000 residential applicants for jargas in South Tangerang, covering areas such as Bintaro Jaya, Graha Raya, and Villa Melati Mas. Approximately 6,000 families in the area are already using the gas network.

Nationally, PGN manages more than 815,000 household connections with a pipeline network that stretches over 20,000 kilometers across the country.

Rudi Permadi, Acting Project Manager for PGN’s City Gas 2 program, said the company remains committed to accelerating the development of residential gas infrastructure. He also expressed appreciation for the support received from residential complex managers, cluster committees, and local residents in South Tangerang.

“Jargas not only provides convenience but also helps reduce the government’s energy subsidies and dependence on imports,” Permadi said in a press release, as quoted by Kompas.

To encourage new sign-ups, PGN is offering free pipeline installation up to 15 meters from the meter to the stove. Additionally, the company is providing free stove conversion services to help customers seamlessly transition to natural gas.
