Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — A new lineup of watersports activities is set to debut at Kuta Beach Park (KBP) within the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), Indonesia, in a move aimed at boosting tourism in the region.

“This is part of ITDC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the destination through experience-based tourism, especially in supporting the growth of marine and sport tourism,” said Wahyu M. Nugroho, General Manager of The Mandalika, in a written statement from Mataram on Thursday (June 5).

The launch of watersports facilities follows the signing of a cooperation agreement between state-owned Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) and local company PT Ocean Addict Lombok Indonesia, granting usage rights for the designated beach facility space known as RR 2.

“The introduction of watersports activities at KBP reinforces Mandalika’s position as an investment magnet for sport tourism,” Nugroho added.

The initiative is expected to introduce both domestic and international visitors to a wide range of non-motorized water activities, including stand-up paddleboarding, surfing, kiteboarding, and windwing.

“These are not only eco-friendly but also offer immersive, nature-based experiences,” Nugroho said.

Officials hope the new attractions will not only diversify tourist offerings but also extend visitor stays and deliver direct economic benefits to local communities and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the area.

The agreement spans five years, from June 2025 to May 2030, with performance reviews scheduled every six months to ensure the program aligns with the broader development goals of positioning Mandalika as “The Ultimate Lifestyle Sportstainment Destination.”

“This marks a tangible step in orchestrating a destination that is not only visually appealing, but also rich in experience,” Nugroho said. “Mandalika is not just built to be seen, it’s built to be lived in, explored, and to grow alongside both travelers and the local community.”
