Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representative Puan Maharani has urged an immediate review of social aid (Bansos) recipient data following a report by PPATK revealing that tens of thousands of beneficiaries are state-owned enterprise employees, doctors, and other professionals who may not qualify for the assistance.

Puan stressed the importance of accurate and up-to-date verification to ensure government programs are properly targeted. “I continue to hope, urge, and even request that data verification be treated as a top priority,” she said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Monday (Aug. 11).

She also warned against making policy changes without a thorough review. “Verify the data first, don’t alter a program without proper, detailed, and accurate verification, because data is the most important reference point,” she said.

Reflecting on the finding, Puan emphasized that social aid program issued by the government must reach those who truly need it.

“We must not allow rightful beneficiaries to be excluded while those who are not eligible receive the assistance,” she added.

Government Found Thousands of Social Aid Recipients Had High-Paying Jobs

Previously, Indonesia’s Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) has found irregularities in the government’s social aid (Bansos) program, revealing that tens of thousands of recipients listed in the first half of 2025 hold suspicious or ineligible occupations.

PPATK review the social aid disbursed by the Ministry of Social Affairs during the first half of 2025 revealed anomalies in employment status among registered recipients

The findings showed that 27,932 recipients were recorded as employees of state-owned enterprises (BUMN), 7,479 as doctors, and more than 6,000 as executives or in managerial positions.

“This initial information came from banks, which reported that when these individuals opened accounts, they declared themselves as BUMN employees or other professions,” Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf said in Jakarta on Thursday (Aug. 7), as reported by Antara.

Yusuf, known locally as Gus Ipul, said the ministry will work with PPATK to verify the data before taking action. If confirmed, he added, accounts belonging to ineligible recipients will be blocked and the funds redirected to those who truly qualify for the aid.
