Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Indonesia Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto met with Nikolai Patrushev, Chairman of Russia Maritime Council and Adviser to the Russian President, to discuss potential areas of strategic cooperation between the two nations, including in the fields of maritime affairs, logistics, economic development, and connectivity.

“Developing the maritime and logistics sectors is one of our national priorities to drive economic growth and strengthen interregional connectivity,” Airlangga said in a statement, Saturday (November 8).

He emphasized Indonesia’s ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure, boost supporting industries, and strengthen maritime self-reliance and competitiveness through partnerships with strategic international allies.

The discussions also touched on cooperation in higher education, particularly between technical universities in Russia and Indonesia. Airlangga said such initiatives align with President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita vision, which prioritizes human capital development and world-class education as key pillars of national progress.

“Beyond sending students abroad, we also want to foster stronger collaboration between Russian and Indonesian technical universities. This will broaden opportunities for students to learn, innovate, and engage in joint research,” he added.

Patrushev expressed Russia’s readiness to expand collaboration across sectors that support Indonesia’s maritime development, including marine logistics infrastructure, shipbuilding technology transfer, and technical capacity building in ocean engineering.

“The Russian government is keen to explore educational and training partnerships with leading maritime institutions in St. Petersburg, particularly in ocean engineering, to help Indonesia develop world-class maritime talent,” Patrushev said.

Russia also outlined strategic initiatives to enhance international shipping routes and maritime connectivity, reaffirming its support for Indonesia’s efforts to strengthen its maritime sector and related industries.

Airlangga concluded by pledging to follow up on the proposed cooperation areas with relevant ministries and agencies, and to report the outcomes of the discussions to President Prabowo.
