Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Microsoft has officially ended support for two older versions of Windows 11, urging users to upgrade for better security and performance. If you’re still using Windows 11 versions 21H2 or 22H2, now is the time to update to a newer version to ensure your computer remains protected and runs smoothly.
Users running Windows 11 version 22H2 for Home and Pro editions, and version 21H2 for Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions, will no longer receive security updates or patches from Microsoft.
Without these crucial updates, your computer could become more vulnerable to security risks, and its performance may degrade over time.
According to Gizchina (October 15, 2024), corporate users who still have Windows 11 version 22H2 installed have an additional year to plan their upgrades, as Microsoft will continue to support this version with updates for one more year. This allows businesses ample time to transition to a newer version of the operating system.
For individual users, there’s no need to worry. Microsoft will gradually upgrade Windows 11 22H2 users to the latest version of Windows 11 automatically. This means that for most people, the transition will be smooth and happen in the background without much disruption.
This announcement follows Microsoft’s recent decision to phase out WordPad, a text editing application that has been part of Windows since 1995.
Starting with the Windows 11 24H2 update, WordPad will be removed entirely from the operating system. While this marks the end of an era for some users, many have already transitioned to more modern text editors like Microsoft Word or cloud-based options like Google Docs.
WordPad was widely used for editing simple text documents (.rtf) and some Word files (.doc), but its feature set was limited compared to Microsoft Word.
Though handy for basic note-taking or light document editing, WordPad has seen a decline in popularity as more advanced word processing software became available.
Microsoft had already ceased developing WordPad in 2022, and now, with its complete removal from Windows 11, the company recommends users switch to Microsoft Word for handling more complex documents (.doc, .rtf), or Notepad for simpler text files (.txt).

If you’re unsure which version of Windows you’re currently using, you can easily check by going to the “Settings” menu on your computer. Under the “About the system” section, you can find information about the installed version of Windows.
For those still using Windows 10, support will continue until October 14, 2025, so there’s still time to decide whether to upgrade to Windows 11 or explore other options.
