Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — A special task force from the North Sumatra Police Narcotics Directorate (Polda Sumut) has apprehended two suspects in possession of 272 kilograms of marijuana originating from Aceh Province. Officers successfully intercepted the circulation of marijuana narcotics on Thamrin Street, Pangkalan Brandan, Babalan District, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra, on Saturday, November 9.

North Sumatra Police spokesperson Kombes Pol Hadi Wahyudi confirmed the arrest of the suspects on Monday, November 11, as reported by ANTARA. “The suspects, identified as S, also known as I (37), and S, also known as DA (30), are residents of Southeast Aceh Regency,” Hadi stated.

The operation began after officers from the North Sumatra Police’s Narcotics Directorate received a tip-off about a vehicle transporting marijuana from Aceh to Medan. Acting on this information, the officers launched an investigation and gathered details that led them to identify the vehicle carrying the drugs.

Authorities tracked the suspect vehicle and intercepted it on Thamrin Street. The suspects attempted to flee and resisted arrest, prompting the officers to shoot out the vehicle’s tires to stop their escape.

“The suspects were driving the vehicle when officers intercepted them. They resisted, so our team shot the car’s tires. Afterward, we detained the individuals identified as S alias I and S alias DA,” Hadi explained.

A search of the vehicle revealed 272 kilograms of marijuana packed in 11 sacks. The drugs were found in the middle seats and the trunk of the car. Hadi disclosed that the suspects intended to distribute the marijuana beyond Sumatra.

“This marijuana was planned to be distributed outside of Sumatra. Our team has identified the network involved and is continuing to investigate other suspects connected to this operation,” he added.

The North Sumatra Police, in collaboration with other stakeholders, are intensifying efforts to combat drug trafficking in their jurisdiction, targeting smuggling routes by air, sea, and land. Authorities are urging the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods. “If you notice anything unusual, please report it immediately to the nearest police station,” Hadi urged.
