Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — During his official visit to Peru, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was awarded the prestigious “Grand Cross of the Order of the Sun of Peru,” the country’s highest honor. The award was presented in a formal ceremony at the Government Palace in Lima on Thursday, November 14. Peru’s President Dina Boluarte personally bestowed the honor upon Prabowo, witnessed by top officials.
“This is a tremendous honor. Thank you very much, Madam President,” President Prabowo said in a written statement from the Presidential Secretariat Bureau of Press, Media, and Information on Friday November 15.
The “Order of the Sun of Peru,” originally known as the “Orden del Sol,” is the nation’s highest honor in Peru, recognizing individuals for exceptional service to the state and the people of Peru. The Grand Cross, the highest grade of the order, is awarded to heads of state and international figures whose contributions are universally acknowledged.
As the recipient of the Grand Cross, Prabowo received the Great Necklace adorned with a diamond-studded medallion. The emblem features a sun-shaped plaque with an 80mm diameter, reflecting the grandeur of ‘El Sol del Perú.’
At its center lies a disc with a relief of Peru’s national coat of arms, encircled by red and white enamel inscribed with “El Sol del Perú” and the year of Peru’s independence, “1821,” commemorating the country’s liberation history.
The emblem is further adorned with branches of green palm and laurel, symbolizing peace and the prosperity of the Peruvian nation.
This award symbolizes the deep friendship and mutual respect between Indonesia and Peru.
Strengthening Indonesia-Peru Relations
President Prabowo Subianto’s official visit included a meeting with President Dina Boluarte at the Government Palace on Thursday, where the two leaders held a one-on-one discussion to explore potential areas of cooperation between Indonesia and Peru. Following their private meeting, they joined their respective delegations for bilateral talks, focusing on strategic partnerships across various sectors.
The bilateral discussions culminated in the signing of a Visa Waiver Agreement for holders of diplomatic and official passports, a significant step toward enhancing diplomatic ties between the two countries.

In a joint press statement, both leaders expressed their commitment to deepening cooperation. President Boluarte highlighted the similarities between Peru and Indonesia, particularly in terms of biodiversity and multiculturalism. She noted that in 2023, Indonesia was Peru’s eighth-largest trading partner in Asia.
“Given the economic strength of our two nations, which continue to experience stable growth and development, there is considerable potential for new areas of collaboration,” President Boluarte said in the Peruvian Government Media, as reported by Tempo.
President Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Peru and expressed optimism for a more robust partnership in the future.
The visit marks a significant milestone in Indonesia-Peru relations, paving the way for increased cooperation in trade, culture, and other areas of mutual interest.
