Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — The infamous “Drake curse” has made a comeback, as the Canadian rapper Drake losing a significant bet after backing Mike Tyson in a highly anticipated boxing match against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul. The fight, held in Texas on Saturday, November 16, saw the 58-year-old Tyson lose by unanimous decision to the 27-year-old Paul, leaving Drake out nearly $335,000 (Rp5.6 billion).

Drake, known for his penchant for high-stakes sports betting, share his betting slip on Instagram, revealing that he had put his money on Tyson. The 38-year-old rapper was confident in the boxing legend’s victory, wagering $335,000 with the potential to win $1,011,750 (Rp6 billion) if Tyson had come out on top.

However, Tyson’s defeat was decisive, with all three judges scoring in favor of Jake Paul: 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73. The loss added to Drake’s streak of high-profile sports bets gone wrong, fueling the ongoing narrative around the so-called “Drake curse.”

Drake’s betting didn’t stop with Tyson. The rapper also shared that he had placed a $450,000 (Rp7.1 billion) bet on UFC legend Jon Jones to win his bout against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309, held on the same night.

However, it looks like Drake’s infamous betting curse has finally come to an end, thanks to Jon “Bones” Jones. Jones secured the victory, successfully defending his heavyweight title and earning Drake a payout of $954,000.

The win couldn’t have come at a better time for Drake, who recently lost $335,000 betting on Mike Tyson. This latest victory helps offset that loss and gives Drake a much-needed boost in his high-stakes betting endeavors.

Drake High-stakes Bet

Drake has gained a reputation for his risky bets on major sporting events, often backing the wrong contender.  Fans attributing a viral phenomenon of losses by Drake’s chosen teams and athletes to his betting decisions as the “Drake curse”.

Mike Tyson Loss to Jake Paul by Unanimous Decision in Texas Heavyweight Showdown

According to Independet, the rapper has reportedly lost over $2 million across seven high-stakes bets, including $300,000 on Canada’s national team in the Copa América semi-final against Argentina and $565,000 on Tyson Fury against Oleksandr Usyk in their heavyweight showdown in May.

Despite his recent losses, Drake has seen some big wins in 2024. Earlier this year, he pocketed over $2.7 million after betting $1.15 million on the Kansas City Chiefs to defeat the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl. Additionally, he scored a $425,000 payout when Brazilian UFC fighter Alex Pereira beat American Jamahal Hill for the light heavyweight title in April.

While Drake’s betting habits continue to draw attention, the latest bets reaffirms his reputation for taking high-risk bets, leaving fans wondering who he’ll back next, and whether the “Drake curse” will continue to strike.
