Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — The Indonesia national soccer team (Timnas Indonesia) made history on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, defeating Saudi Arabia 2-0 in a thrilling Group C match of the Third Round 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. The game, held at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (SUGBK) in Jakarta, saw Indonesia’s “Garuda” squad stun the 70,000-strong home crowd with a landmark performance.

Indonesia’s goals came courtesy of 19-year-old star Marselino Ferdinand, who scored twice in the 32nd and 57th minutes through expertly executed counterattacks. The Saudi struggled to respond to Indonesia’s defensive strategy and quick transitions, left with no equalizing goals until the match ended.

Under the tactical guidance of head coach Shin Tae-yong, Indonesia team opted for a defensive setup, relying on counterattacks to penetrate the Saudi defense. The strategy proved effective, as the Garuda squad managed six on-target shots, with brace’s from Marselino sealed their victory.
