New Chairman of Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Setyo Budiyanto Profile and Wealth

Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Commissioner General Setyo Budiyanto has been elected as the Chairman of Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for the 2024-2029 term.

The decision was made during a plenary session of Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday, November 21. Setyo secured the position through a voting process, receiving 46 votes in total, with 45 in favor of his appointment as chairman.

In his five-year term, Setyo will lead the KPK alongside four other commissioners: Johanis Tanak, Fitroh Rohcahyanto, Ibnu Basuki Widodo, and Agus Joko Pramono.

Born in Surabaya, East Java, on June 29, 1967, Setyo Budiyanto is a high-ranking officer in the Indonesian National Police (Polri) with the rank of Commissioner General, equivalent to a three-star general.

He graduated from the Police Academy in 1989 and has a solid background in criminal investigation. His academic credentials include completing programs at the Police Science College (PTIK) in 1999, the Police Staff and Leadership School (Sespim) in 2007, and the Police Senior Staff and Leadership School (Sespimti) in 2017.

Setyo has extensive experience in anti-corruption efforts. He served as the Coordinator of Supervision for the KPK’s Enforcement Division in 2019. From 2020 to 2021, he held the strategic role of Director of Investigations at the KPK, where he handled several high-profile corruption cases in Indonesia.

In early 2024, Setyo was appointed Inspector General of the Ministry of Agriculture by Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman, a position he held starting March 22, 2024. On November 21, 2024, Setyo returned to the KPK, taking the role as its Chairman for the 2024–2029 term.

Net Worth and Financial Transparency

According to Tirto.id, the State Officials’ Wealth Report (LHKPN) submitted on April 1, 2024, during his tenure as Inspector General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Setyo reported a total net worth of Rp9.6 billion ($607,000) with no outstanding debts.

His assets include real estate in Tangerang, Makassar, and Bogor, valued at Rp7.6 billion. He also owns vehicles and machinery worth Rp946 million, other movable assets valued at Rp360 million, and cash or cash equivalents totaling Rp705 million.

Commitment to Fighting Corruption

As a high-ranking police officer with the rank of Commissioner General, Setyo Budiyanto has expertise in criminal investigations and law enforcement. His extensive experience and dedication during his tenure at Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) have equipped him with the skills necessary to lead the institution.

Setyo is now tasked with advancing the country’s anti-corruption efforts as the newly appointed KPK chairman. As he steps into his new position, Setyo is expected to continue the KPK’s critical work, ensuring accountability and transparency across the nation’s public and private sectors.
