Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — The artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot Grok is now accessible to all users of the X social media platform (formerly Twitter). This allows non-premium users to use Grok AI, provide a wider opportunity for users to try out the chatbot’s features for free.
Grok is a large language model (LLM) developed by xAI and trained with a large amount of text. This chatbot was trained using a special training stack on top of JAX and Rust in October last year.
Reporting from The Verge, several X users began to notice this update since Friday December 6. Grok, developed by artificial intelligence company xAI, was initially only available to premium customers.
With Grok AI, X users can search for various general or real-time information on X. This chatbot is similar to ChatGPT and Copilot, but Grok can answer questions that other chatbots reject.
Grok was first launched by xAI in 2023 as an interactive AI assistant with a relaxed and humorous communication style. The xAI company was founded by Elon Musk in the same year, with a vision to advance AI technology through integration with digital I like X.
In November, TechCrunch reported that xAI began testing a free version of its Grok AI chatbot in select regions. Now, this expansion of access is expected to strengthen Grok’s position in the increasingly competitive AI chatbot market.
This move is seen as a strategy to compete with other popular chatbots, such as ChatGPT from OpenAI, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and Claude developed by Anthropic. Each of these chatbots has offered free features that have attracted global users, prompting xAI to make Grok more accessible.

In addition, a report from The Wall Street Journal stated that xAI recently managed to raise US$ 6 billion or around Rp. 95.1 trillion in its latest funding round.
This fund will be used to strengthen technology development and consider launching a standalone application for the Grok AI chatbot, similar to the approach taken by ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude.
While Grok is currently only available through the X platform, a standalone app could provide greater flexibility and expand market reach, especially for users outside the X ecosystem. This is expected to increase Grok’s competitiveness amidst the dominance of other well-known chatbots.
With the new step, xAI demonstrates its commitment to providing an inclusive Grok AI chatbot experience for all users, while strengthening technological innovation in the field of artificial intelligence.
