Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — The Jakarta Provincial Government has announced free public transportation services for MRT, LRT Jakarta, and TransJakarta buses during New Year celebrations. The zero-fare policy will be in effect from December 31, 2024, to January 1, 2025.
Jakarta’s Acting Governor Teguh Setyabudi stated that the initiative aims to support the city’s New Year festivities. “We’ve arranged for public transportation, including TransJakarta, MRT, and LRT, to be free on December 31 and January 1,” he said during an event in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, December 24, as reported by Detik.
Head of Jakarta’s Transportation Agency (Dishub), Syafrin Liputo, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that the free fare program is designed to facilitate public mobility during the celebrations.
“Unlike previous years, this time TransJakarta, MRT, and LRT services will be free for two full days,” Syafrin said on December 26, as reported by Kumparan.
In addition to free fares, the operating hours of these public transportation modes will also be extended. TransJakarta buses will operate 24 hours across 13 main corridors, utilizing large bus fleets to accommodate passengers.
Meanwhile, MRT and LRT services, along with the commuter rail (KRL), will extend their operating hours until 2:00 AM on January 1, 2025.
“All large buses will run continuously, while MRT and LRT operations will continue until 2:00 AM on January 1,” Syafrin explained.
To further support the celebrations, the Jakarta Transportation Agency has designated 24 parking zones along the Sudirman-Thamrin corridor. These zones can accommodate approximately 17,493 two-wheel vehicles and 21,914 four-wheel vehicles.
New Years Celebrations
During the New Year’s Celebrations 2025, a series of special events were held in various location across Jakarta, designed to celebrate the arrival of the new year.
