Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — The year 2025 is shaping up to be a period of innovation and evolution in the travel industry, with noctourism emerging as a key trend. This travel concept, which focuses on unique nighttime experiences under dark skies captivate travelers seeking cosmic views and astronomical adventures.

According to CNBC Indonesia, noctourism has been named the top travel trend for 2025 by Booking.com. It appeals to night owls looking to escape the daytime crowds and embrace the magic of midnight. Activities range from stargazing and tracking constellations to witnessing rare cosmic events.

According to a global survey conducted by Booking.com with over 27,000 participants, nearly two-thirds of travelers expressed interest in visiting destinations with darker skies. Specifically, 72% showed enthusiasm for stargazing, 59% for once-in-a-lifetime cosmic events, and 57% for constellation tracking.

While many noctourism activities involve gazing at the night sky, land-based experiences are equally popular. These include nocturnal city tours, truffle hunting in Italy, and full-moon picnics by the sea.

A Growing Demand for Unique Nighttime Adventures

Luxury travel company Wayfairer Travel reported a 25% increase in demand for noctourism experiences over the past year. Popular destinations include Norway and Iceland for aurora viewing, night diving at the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and Egypt’s Red Sea, nocturnal wildlife safaris in Zambia and Kenya, and stargazing in Chile’s Atacama Desert.

“Noctourism will redefine travel in 2025 as night-loving travelers increasingly seek one-of-a-kind experiences after dark,” said Jay Stevens, CEO of Wayfairer Travel.

The Allure of Dark Skies and Cool Nights

Travelers are increasingly drawn to destinations with dark skies, favoring cooler nighttime adventures over daytime excursions. Many seek places offering cosmic views and low light pollution to maximize stargazing experiences.

Climate change and health concerns have also fueled this trend. With rising temperatures and increased awareness of skin protection, many travelers prefer cooler nighttime activities to avoid the heat and harmful UV rays. Additionally, the calm and natural ambiance of nighttime destinations is proving irresistible to those seeking serenity and escape.

As noctourism gains momentum, it promises to transform how we explore the world, offering travelers new ways to connect with nature, science, and the cosmos under the tranquility of the night.
