Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Stella Christie, Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, has become a topic of public discussion following the release of her official wealth report by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). The report, known as the State Officials Wealth Report (LHKPN), revealed that Stella’s assets are valued at approximately IDR 4.79 billion (around $300,000).
A Minimalist Stella Christie Financial Portfolio

Unlike many public officials, Stella does not own any vehicles—neither cars nor motorcycles. Her wealth comprises primarily real estate and liquid assets, and she has no outstanding debt. Stella’s financial profile stands out for its simplicity, reflecting a lifestyle focused on functionality rather than extravagance.
Simple Living Meets Stylish Choices
Beyond her financial transparency, Stella has gained public admiration for her down-to-earth demeanor. She is frequently seen using public transportation, such as motorcycle taxis and Jakarta’s MRT system. Her personal style also captures attention, combining affordability with a flair for fashion.
One example is her footwear choice during a diplomatic visit to China in November 2024. Stella wore a pair of colorful fold shoes from the United Nude brand, priced at €169 (approximately $180). These shoes, part of the Fold Mid Bright Mix AW 16 series, are among the brand’s most popular offerings.
Stella’s iconic yellow-rimmed glasses have also sparked curiosity. These glasses, from the CCSpace brand, cost just IDR 930,000 (around $60). Additionally, her gray fabric backpack, valued at $211, is a practical and stylish alternative to traditional briefcases.
A Real Estate-Centered Asset Portfolio
Stella’s wealth is largely tied to two properties, one in Jakarta and another in Bandung, West Java. The Jakarta property, valued at IDR 1.7 billion ($113,000), was acquired through her personal earnings and spans 81 square meters. Meanwhile, the Bandung property, valued at IDR 2.7 billion ($178,000), is a larger 1,813-square-meter plot she received as a gift. Together, these properties account for over 90% of her declared assets.
Interestingly, Stella owns no other movable or high-value assets, such as luxury cars, jewelry, or investment securities.
Stella Christie Transparency in Public Service
As part of President Prabowo Subianto’s “Red and White Cabinet,” Stella and other ministers are required to disclose their wealth to promote transparency and accountability. The KPK ensures that these reports are accessible to the public through an online portal, encouraging scrutiny and trust in public institutions.

Admiration for Authenticity
Stella’s straightforward lifestyle and relatable fashion choices resonate with the public, positioning her as a symbol of integrity and simplicity in government. While her wealth might seem modest compared to her peers, her focus on practicality and transparency has earned her widespread respect.
In a political landscape often criticized for opulence and secrecy, Stella Christie’s approach offers a refreshing perspective on public service, balancing accountability with authenticity.
