Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Access to and from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Soetta) was inundated on Wednesday morning (Januari 29, 2025), following flooding triggered by heavy rainfall on Tuesday night. The flooding not only affected four-wheeled vehicles but also disrupted train services to the airport.

The torrential rain caused severe flooding in several key access points to the airport, including roads leading to Terminal 2, toll road entrances and exits, and perimeter roads.

Information shared by the public on the Instagram account @jakartabarat24jam on Tuesday night indicated that access to Terminal 2 was impassable for four-wheeled vehicles due to flooding. The floodwaters covered the roads leading to Terminal 2, resulting in a long traffic queue of approximately two kilometers as vehicles were stuck.

According to CNBC Indonesia, the airport-bound toll road was also submerged. The official X account of TMC Polda Metro Jaya reported that floodwaters reached around 20 cm at Prof. Dr. Sedyatmo Toll Road Km 31+200 in Jakarta, affecting access to Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

“As of 9:06 AM WIB on January 29, 2025, we report that the toll road towards the airport from Semanggi at kilometer 31.200 is experiencing floodwaters of about 20 cm but remains passable for vehicles across three lanes,” said Karosekali, Operations Head of the Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Directorate, in a video statement.

Widespread Access Disruption

Beyond the toll road, flooding also affected Perimeter North Road, a key entry and exit route for both motorcycles and cars traveling to and from Tangerang. As of Wednesday morning, floodwaters persisted in the area.

Numerous motorcycles stalled due to the high water levels, forcing riders to push their bikes to the roadside. The floodwaters were estimated to be around 30 cm deep, making it difficult for motorcycles to pass, though four-wheeled vehicles could still navigate the area.

KAI Commuter also reported delays on the Basoetta Commuter Line on Tuesday night (January 28, 2025) due to heavy rainfall around Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. The downpour caused water accumulation on the railway tracks near Soetta Airport Station, disrupting train operations.

Situation Returns to Normal

Despite the flooding, Soekarno-Hatta Airport management assured that airport operations remained unaffected and that access roads had returned to normal since Wednesday morning.

Holik Muardi, Assistant Deputy of Communication and Legal Affairs at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, stated that the heavy rainfall from Tuesday night through early Wednesday morning had caused water accumulation at several points within the airport area.

“Soekarno-Hatta Airport management swiftly implemented response procedures, and access to the airport has now returned to normal. Airport operations continue as usual,” Holik said in a written statement on Wednesday, January 29, as reported by CNN Indonesia.

Additionally, train services, which were briefly disrupted due to flooding, have also resumed normal operations on Wednesday. PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) confirmed that airport train services had returned to normal after being temporarily suspended due to floodwaters along its route on Tuesday.

“Train services are back to normal, and there are no longer any disruptions,” said Joni Martinus, Vice President of Corporate Secretary at PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI), in a statement as reported by Kompas on Wednesday, January 29.
