Indonesia’s Komdigi Investigates Alleged Data Breach Following Cyberattack

Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Cyberattack with allegedly data breach occur at Indonesia’s ministry. Recently Ministry of Digital Communications (Komdigi) allegedly suffered from data breach after a suspected cyberattack that may have led to the exposure of internal employee data.

According to CNN Indonesia, Komdigi has launch an investigation into the cyberattack. While the ministry stated that the leaked information is general in nature, it assured that swift measures have been taken to safeguard its systems.

Alexander Sabar, Director General of Digital Space Oversight at Komdigi, confirmed that the attack targeted the ministry’s Data Center and Informatics Facilities (PDSI).

“Although the compromised data is not classified, we are taking immediate action to secure our systems and identify those responsible for this incident,” Alexander said at a press briefing in Jakarta on Tuesday (February 4).

He added that the ongoing investigation includes a comprehensive audit of the ministry’s digital infrastructure, risk mitigation efforts, analysis of cyberattack patterns, and tracking of suspicious network activities.

Komdigi have been instructing all units under to conduct internal security audits and enhance their cyber incident response capabilities.

Data Protections

The ministry emphasized that data protection remains a top priority. The commitment in line with the implementation of Law No. 27 of 2022 on Personal Data Protection (UU PDP).

“Anyone who intentionally discloses personal data without authorization can face up to four years in prison and/or a maximum fine of Rp4 billion ($260,000). Meanwhile, the misuse of personal data is punishable by up to five years in prison and/or a fine of Rp5 billion ($325,000),” Alexander explained.

Komdigi pledged to provide regular updates on the investigation to ensure transparency and maintain public trust. It was part of Komdigi commitment to strengthening national cybersecurity infrastructure and improving system security.

The ministry also urged the public to remain vigilant against potential data misuse. While also, Komdigi reiterating its dedication to enhancing Indonesia’s cybersecurity framework to protect citizens’ personal information.
