Extreme Bali Weather! 15 Flights at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport Disrupted the Last 2 days

Bali, Indonesia Sentinel — Extreme weather conditions affecting Bali have disrupted flight operations at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, impacting 15 flights from Monday (February 10) to Tuesday (February 11).

The Bali Regional Airport Authority reported that as of 2:00 p.m. WITA on Tuesday (February 11, 2025), four flights had been affected. According to Bali Airport Authority Chief Cecep Kurniawan, the disruptions included one delayed flight, two diverted flights, and one go-around maneuver.

  • A Wings Air flight from Denpasar to Lombok was delayed.
  • Two Lion Air flights from Semarang to Denpasar were diverted to Surabaya.
  • A charter flight from Bundi to Denpasar was redirected to Lombok.
  • An AirAsia flight from Jakarta (CGK) executed a go-around before eventually landing.

Kurniawan stated that the airport authority has coordinated with airlines and relevant stakeholders to ensure the continued safe and efficient operation of flights at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. He also assured that affected passengers would be well accommodated.

“We urge all passengers using I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport to arrive earlier than scheduled and to stay in close communication with their respective airlines for flight updates, particularly given the extreme weather affecting Bali,” he said as reported by Kumparan.

Flight Disruptions

On Monday (February 10, 2025), the airport reported disruptions to 11 flights due to extreme weather conditions. I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport General Manager, Ahmad Syaugi confirmed the disruptions.

“Specifically, there were eight delayed domestic flights, one canceled domestic flight, and two international flights that performed go-arounds due to severe weather at the airport,” said Syaugi, as reported by Detik on Tuesday (February 11, 2025).

Extreme Weather Conditions

Bali has been experiencing extreme weather over the past few days due to the impact of tropical cyclone seedling 96S, which has caused strong winds and heavy rainfall across the region.

The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued an early warning indicating that these extreme weather conditions are expected to persist until February 12.

Meanwhile, Bali’s Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has advised residents to remain cautious when engaging in outdoor activities, particularly during heavy rain.
