Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived at the Bogor Presidential Palace in West Java on Wednesday (February 12). Erdogan visits to Indonesia welcomed by a grand state welcome that included a ceremonial gun salute and the national anthems of Turkey and Indonesia.

Erdogan’s motorcade reached the palace at approximately 11:30 a.m. local time. The Turkish President was greeted by a formation of 75 mounted troops from Indonesia’s Presidential Security Forces. The number 75 symbolizes the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Indonesia and Turkey.

The honor guards, standing at attention in front of the palace gates and along the courtyard, carried ceremonial staffs adorned with red and white flags, signifying the unity between the two nations.

Prabowo Personally Welcomes Erdogan

Erdogan and First Lady Emine Erdogan landed at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta on Tuesday night (February 11). They were personally received at the foot of the aircraft stairs by President Prabowo, despite rainy weather.

“President Prabowo is very close to President Erdogan, and greeting him at the airport is a sign of his deep respect for the Turkish leader,” said Yusuf Permana, Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media at the Presidential Secretariat, on Wednesday (February 12, 2025).

Prabowo personally accompanied Erdogan in the same vehicle from the airport to his hotel, where the Turkish president were staying. This level of reception is uncommon, as Indonesian presidents traditionally welcome foreign leaders at the palace rather than the airport.

Official Agenda

President Erdogan visits to Indonesia on February 11–12, is part of his official diplomatic tour across Asia. Following the welcoming ceremony at the Bogor Presidential Palace, both leaders introduced their respective delegations.

Indonesian officials present included Foreign Minister Sugiono, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, Indonesia’s Ambassador to Turkey Achmad Rizal Purnama, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

The visit will conclude with an official state luncheon at the Bogor Presidential Palace courtyard. Erdogan is expected to depart Indonesia immediately after the meetings. Prabowo plans to personally see him off at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base.
