Surabaya, InfoPublik – In recent days, customers of Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) have been made anxious. This is due to the disruption of the service system of the largest Islamic bank in Indonesia.
In addition, customers are again worried about the LockBit 3.0 tweet which claims to be responsible for the disturbance that hit the BSI. They claimed to have stolen 15 million users’ data and threatened to spread it.
Although unconfirmed, the tweet indicates that people should continue to be aware of cyberattacks.
After all, such Ransomware malicious software attacks need to be anticipated. Data Science Technology lecturer at Universitas Airlangga (Unair), Dr. Maryamah SKom, said that the virus deliberately causes disruption to either computers or computer networks.
“Ransomware is a type of malware that threatens to publish the victim’s personal data, retrieve information or permanently block access to a network unless the hacker gets the money or ransom he wants,” she said, Friday (5/19/2023).
According to him, usually hackers will threaten data owners with a certain amount of money and if it is not fulfilled, hackers will publish personal data or permanently block access to a network.
In the BSI case, the hacked data was bank customer data containing account information, mobile banking accounts and other information that contained money.
“Hackers do not need to ask the customer for money because they can directly drain the contents of the account from retrieving customer data,” added the lecturer of the Unair Data Science Technology Study Program.
He added, when hacking occurs, you should immediately report it to the authorities so that the cyber team can immediately handle it and don’t panic and make rash decisions.
In addition, if the hacker asks for ransom, it should not be given immediately because we have no certainty whether the data will be returned after the money is given.
“Some hackers take advantage of the psychological condition of panicked victims by offering money but that is not the best solution,” he said.
How to Anticipate Hacking
He urged the public to always be vigilant in using technology. Also, do not easily access foreign links that enter social media.
For him, computer-based systems are very vulnerable to hacking if there is no regular system security updates.
We can also maintain data security in simple ways, such as changing passwords regularly, and updating software.
Moreover, he added to always be careful in spreading privacy data such as NIK or others.
“Frequently update the devices, whether smartphones or laptops that are used. Do not use untrusted public wifi, especially to access sensitive data websites or applications such as mobile banking and internet banking,” he said. (InfoPublik/MC Diskominfo Prov Jatim/ida-mad/toeb)
