Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Amazon Web Services (AWS) experienced a widespread outage on Monday, disrupting several major platforms including Amazon, Snapchat, Perplexity, and Roblox.
According to AWS’s service status page, multiple systems suffered “service disruptions” due to operational issues. The company said it was “investigating increased error rates and latency in several AWS services in the US-EAST-1 region.” The outage has also affected services in other regions worldwide.
Users on Reddit reported that Amazon’s smart assistant Alexa was unresponsive, unable to answer questions or execute commands.
The disruption appeared to extend to several other cloud-based platforms hosted on AWS, including Perplexity, Airtable, Canva, and even McDonald’s app.
“Perplexity is currently experiencing an outage. The root cause is an issue with AWS. We’re working to fix it,” Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday afternoon.
