Bandung, IndonesiaSentinel.com — Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Information Technology (Menkominfo), Budi Arie Setiadi, has threatened to banned the popular streaming app Bigo Live due to its alleged involvement in online gambling and pornographic content.
The Ministry has already issued a second warning letter to PT Bigo Technology Indonesia on Wednesday, August 21, following an initial warning on July 16, 2024. The minister emphasized that PT Bigo Technology Indonesia must immediately remove all negative content circulating on the platform.
“If Bigo Live fails to show a commitment to resolving these issues, we will take legal action in accordance with existing laws, which could include banning the application in Indonesia,” Budi Arie stated in a written release on Thursday, August 22.
“Bigo Live must also enhance its moderation system to prevent the reappearance of such negative content in the future,” he added.

Bigo Live Policy Regarding Online Gambling and Vulgar Content
Bigo Live’s official prohibits gambling and pornographic content on the platform, clearly outlined in its Community Convention policy. “BIGO LIVE users must comply with the laws and regulations of their respective countries as well as BIGO LIVE’s management rules, or face penalties,” the policy states.
This policy applies to all forms of content, including live broadcasts, short videos, comments, and images. Violations involving online gambling and pornography are considered serious offenses by Bigo, with penalties ranging from live-streaming restrictions and login limitations to account bans.
Even the policies are there, such negative contents still can be found circulated on the plat form. “We are still finding illegal content on Bigo Live,” Budi Arie stated.
