Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Inspired by the legendary strength and precision of Japanese swords, Casio made the G-Shock MRG-G2000GA Gassan, a timepiece that combines the iconic durability of G-Shock with traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

This unique model showcases the artistry of renowned swordsmith Sadanobu Gassan, a master in the centuries-old craft of sword making.

Gassan, the sixth-generation descendant of the famed sword-making family, infused his traditional sword-making expertise into the design of this special G-Shock series.

The result is a watch that embodies the essence of a samurai sword, both in its aesthetic and construction.

Japanese Traditional Craft Meets Modern Innovation

The G-Shock MRG-G2000GA Gassan blends the beauty of traditional Japanese art with cutting-edge technology. The watch’s case design is inspired by the blade of a Samurai sword, while the wrist strap features the same intricate patterns found on the handle of a sword. This unique combination brings the artistry of sword making into the world of horology, offering collectors a rare piece that fuses ancient craftsmanship with modern engineering.

One of the standout features is the application of the “Yasuri-me” technique, commonly used on the grip of a sword handle. This technique, meticulously applied by hand, gives the strap a textured pattern that enhances its traditional Japanese feel. Each strap link is individually detailed by Gassan himself, leaving behind distinctive rasp marks reminiscent of a sword’s hilt.

The “Ayasugi Hada” technique, another hallmark of Japanese sword craftsmanship, has been applied to the watch case. This process creates a visual effect resembling the rippling pattern seen on a samurai blade, further highlighting the watch’s connection to Japan’s rich history of metalwork.

Added with a kanji word manually hand-carved on the strap, just complete the image of a samurai sword in this G-Shock watch series.

High-Quality Materials and Unmatched Durability

The use of material for the series is no joke. The material gives a visual result that resembles a sword feature without reducing the strength of the watch.

The G-Shock MRG-G2000GA Gassan is constructed from titanium, which has been recrystallized to give the case a shimmering finish, resembling the temper of a sword blade.

Casio has also incorporated sapphire crystal glass, known for its exceptional clarity and high scratch resistance, with a non-reflective coating for optimal visibility.

In a nod to both durability and aesthetics, Casio has employed advanced “metal laminated molding” technology, using laser-processed titanium powder to form unique patterns and reinforce specific areas of the case. This process ensures that the watch not only looks exceptional but also remains highly durable.

The case is further treated with an Arc Ion Plating (AIP) technique, which gives it a deep purple finish, a color traditionally associated with nobility in Japanese culture.

Finally, the bezel is crafted from Cobarion, a cobalt-chromium alloy that is twice as hard as steel and shines with a platinum-like luster. The combination of radial brushing and mirror polishing gives the bezel a finish reminiscent of a sword’s beveled edge.

Advanced Features and Technologies

Beyond its design, the MR-G Gassan series excels in technological innovation. It boasts Casio’s signature Triple G Resist technology, which makes the watch resistant to shock, vibrations, and centrifugal forces. It also features an LED light and Neobrite coating for long-lasting illumination in the dark, even after brief exposure to light.

The watch is solar-powered and equipped with energy-efficient Bluetooth technology, allowing users to connect it wirelessly to their smartphones or tablets. While, its battery can last up to 22 months on a full charge, thanks to a power-saving mode.

With its blend of traditional Japanese sword-making techniques and modern technology, the Casio G-Shock MRG-G2000GA Gassan is more than just a watch. It’s a functional masterpiece that showcases both cutting-edge engineering and timeless craftsmanship, making it a must-have for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
