Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — A Chinese technology company has made headlines with the launch of Manus, the first fully autonomous AI agent. Since its release, the innovation has quickly become a hot topic among AI experts and industry watchers.
According to Kumparan, Manus represents a breakthrough in artificial intelligence by being the first Agentic AI. Agnetic AI was an AI entity designed to be capable of making independent decisions based on predefined parameters. Unlike traditional chatbots that require multiple human inputs to complete tasks, Manus can autonomously execute complex assignments from start to finish with just an initial command from the user.
According to Business Insider, Manus was developed by Monica, a Chinese startup and subsidiary of Butterfly Effect. The AI’s capabilities were demonstrated in a launch video, where it sorted resumes, ranked candidates, and formatted data into spreadsheets in mere seconds.
“This is not just another chatbot. It is a fully autonomous Agentic AI that bridges the gap between conception and execution,” said Yichao Peak Ji, one of Manus’ co-founders in a video, as reported by Business Insider.
According to Ji, Manus is built on a refined version of Claude 3.5 Sonnet v1 and Alibaba’s Qwen AI model. “We use different fine-tuned versions of Claude and Qwen,” Ji explained as reported by Kumparan.
“When we first started developing Manus, we only had Claude 3.5 Sonnet v1, so we needed additional models. Now that Claude 3.7 looks promising, we are testing it internally.”
Advanced Capabilities and Potential
The technology represents an advancement that combines generative AI, machine learning, and deep learning into a single AI system designed to perform specialized tasks. In other words, the AI agent can operate independently without requiring manual instructions from humans.
The company claims that Manus can analyze stock market trends, retrieve web data, and even build interactive websites. As a cloud-based application, it remains functional even when users log out of the system.

Furthermore, the developers assert that Manus outperforms OpenAI’s Deep Research model based on GAIA standards, a benchmarking tool for AI models. Currently, access to Manus is restricted, available only to select users.
Some analysts have compared Manus to DeepSeek, another Chinese AI model that previously made waves in the tech industry. While both offer advanced AI capabilities, Manus sets itself apart with its fully autonomous system, capable of executing complex tasks without human guidance.
This technology has the potential to drive innovation across various sectors, from industrial automation to more intelligent personal assistants. With its autonomous capabilities, Manus has now taken center stage, reinforcing the narrative that China is determined to compete with the U.S. in the global AI race.
