Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Following a victory over Democratic opponent Kamala Harris, Donald Trump is set to return to the White House as the 47th President of the United States. Known for his extensive wealth from a long career in business, Trump will earn an annual salary as president, how much is it?
Donald Trump has boasted about his personal wealth for decades. According to Fortune, he’s currently amassing significant paper wealth from his extensive holdings in Trump Media & Technology Group Corp., the publicly listed parent company of his social networking site.
Trump also ranks among the wealthiest individuals worldwide and holds the 479th spot on Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index of the world’s top 500 richest people. As of Wednesday, Bloomberg estimates Trump’s net worth at $6.49 billion (over than Rp100 Trillion).
Despite his substantial personal fortune, as a President, Trump will receive a fixed presidential salary of $400,000 (Rp6.3 Billion) per year, the same as his predecessor Joe Biden, under a figure set by Congress in 2001.
The Evolution of Presidential Salaries
Over the years, the U.S. president’s salary has seen incremental increases. Harry Truman, the 33rd president (1945-1953), earned $100,000 annually. In 1969, President Richard Nixon saw the salary doubled to $200,000. Congress last approved a raise in 2001, setting it at $400,000 when George W. Bush took office—a figure that has not changed.
Beyond Salary: Additional Benefits and Allowances
According to The Economic Times, Alongside his base salary, Trump will receive a suite of benefits and allowances as part of the presidential compensation package. Here’s how these add up:
- Expense Allowance: The president receives a non-taxable annual expense allowance of $50,000, covering personal and official expenses.
- Travel and Entertainment: The office comes with a $100,000 travel allowance and $19,000 for entertainment, which support the president’s official duties.
- White House Redecoration: Upon assuming office, the president receives a $100,000 allowance to redecorate the White House residence.
Together, these benefits bring the total annual compensation package to approximately $569,000, encompassing various operational and ceremonial aspects of the presidency.
Additional Presidential Privileges
In addition to financial compensation, the U.S. president enjoys a range of non-monetary benefits to support the demands of the role. Trump will live in the White House at no cost, with secure transportation access including Air Force One, Marine One, and a fleet of armored limousines.
He will also receive protection from the Secret Service and comprehensive healthcare benefits, given the responsibilities and security risks inherent to the position.

Post-Presidency Benefits
Even after leaving office, former presidents retain significant privileges. Upon completing his term, Trump will be eligible for a lifetime pension of around $230,000 annually, healthcare benefits, and funding for office space and staff. Additionally, former presidents receive a travel allowance for official public duties, supporting their continued engagement in civic and ceremonial roles.
While the role of president doesn’t promise a vast salary compared to Trump’s private sector earnings, the position carries benefits and influence that extend well beyond his years in office.
