Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Billionaire Elon Musk has officially resigned from his position in the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump. Elon Musk had been serving as a senior White House advisor and head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a role aimed at streamlining the federal workforce.
The White House confirmed Musk’s departure, which takes effect Wednesday evening, May 28. Musk also publicly announced the move on his social media platform X, thanking President Trump for the opportunity to implement cost-cutting measures within the government.
“As my schedule time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,” Musk wrote from his account.
“The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.”
Musk’s 130-day tenure ends amid ongoing challenges in Trump’s broader federal restructuring agenda.
During his time at DOGE, Musk led a controversial push that reduced the federal civilian workforce by nearly 12%, slashing approximately 260,000 positions through layoffs, buyouts, and early retirement incentives.
Despite his exit, the administration stated that DOGE’s efficiency efforts will continue.
