Jakarta, Indonesia sentinel — X, formerly known as Twitter, remains the only major social media platform operating in Indonesia without an official local office. Initially, Twitter had a representative office in Indonesia, but following its acquisition by Elon Musk and its rebranding to X about two years ago, the platform no longer maintains a local presence.
Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) has attempted to engage with X, requesting the platform establish a representative office in the country.
However, these efforts have reportedly been ignored, with no response from Elon Musk or X’s management.
Budi Arie Setiadi, Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Information, highlighted the imbalance, stating that other foreign tech companies operating in Indonesia maintain local offices.
He indicated that this issue is a point of concern for the Indonesian government, which continues to push for compliance from X.
“We are still in communication with X, but there has been no response,” Budi confirmed.
He emphasized that having a local office would not only ensure fairness for other companies but also streamline communication between the Indonesian government and X, especially when issues arise that require immediate action.
Currently, without a local office, addressing any potential problems with X takes significantly longer.
Kominfo is exploring strategic measures to address the situation, but further details remain under review.

“We’re still refining our approach. When the time is right, we’ll share it with everyone,” Budi added.
