Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — A 41-year-old man, identified as Rudi Sihaloho, allegedly stabbed three siblings, leaving them critically injured in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, on Monday December 9. Police reported that the stabs attack was triggered by taunts from the children that angered the suspect.

Percut Sei Tuan Police Chief, Commissioner Jhonson Mangara Sitompul, said the victims were three children with the initials NS (7), OS (4), and DS (1.5), who are siblings, lives across the suspect’s house.

“All three victims are currently in critical condition and are being treated at Murni Teguh Hospital after being transferred from Mitra Medika Hospital, which lacked the necessary medical equipment to handle their injuries,” Sitompul as reported by CNN Indonesia, on Monday.

According to police, the attack began when Rudi was sitting at a closed food stall near his home. The three children reportedly passed by and made comments that the suspect found offensive.

“The suspect was sitting at a food stall near his house when the three children walked by and allegedly taunted him, calling his name in an impolite manner,” Sitompul said.

Angered by the remarks, Rudi allegedly attacked the children with a knife, leaving them bleeding and in need of urgent medical attention. The victims were rushed to the hospital, where they remain under intensive care.

When asked about the suspect’s mental state, Sitompul noted that authorities could not yet confirm any psychiatric condition. “I can’t say for sure if the suspect has a mental disorder because during questioning, he was coherent and remembered the incident. He will undergo a psychiatric evaluation at a mental hospital to determine his condition,” he added.

Police have detained Rudi and are continuing to investigate the case. Several witnesses are being questioned, and the knife used in the children stabs attack has been seized as evidence.
