Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Support for Palestine resonated during the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) session at the inauguration of Prabowo Subianto as presiden and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka on Sunday, October 20, 2024. Following the official swearing-in, MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani brought attention to the ongoing struggle of Palestinians for full independence.
“In today’s increasingly complex global situation, one issue we must address is the Palestinian people’s fight for independence and human rights,” Muzani said.
His remarks were met with a standing ovation from members of parliament, political party leaders, foreign dignitaries, and former Indonesian presidents and vice presidents. Cries of “Free Palestine!” echoed throughout the assembly hall, signaling strong support from the gathered officials.
Muzani emphasized that the Palestinian issue transcends regional concerns and represents a critical humanitarian cause. “As a nation that upholds the principles of humanity, Indonesia will continue to support Palestinian independence. Through active diplomacy, we will continue to amplify the voices of those who are marginalized,” he stated.
He also expressed hope that the new administration under Prabowo and Gibran will maintain Indonesia’s commitment to supporting Palestine on the international stage.
