Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — President Prabowo Subianto said Indonesia holds vast untapped energy reserves and expressed confidence that the country will soon achieve energy self-sufficiency and become a major energy exporter.
Speaking at the opening of the 49th Annual Indonesian Petroleum Association Convention and Exhibition (IPA Convex) in Tangerang, Banten, on Wednesday (May 21, 2025), Prabowo cited recent discussions with experts from leading global universities who identified substantial offshore energy resources.
“Just yesterday, I spoke with experts from some of the world’s top universities. They told me that beneath our seas lie enormous energy sources, and the technology to extract them already exists,” he said, as reported by Antara.
“We’re very optimistic. Soon, we will not only be energy self-sufficient, but we will also once again become an energy supplier to the world.”
Highlighting Indonesia’s vast energy potential, Prabowo pointed to dozens of oil and gas blocks that remain available for development. He said these blocks are ready to be offered to both domestic and international investors.

The president also called for stronger cooperation between the government, state-owned enterprises, and private sector players to boost domestic oil and gas production. In addition, he ordered regulators to simplify the bureaucratic process to attract investment.
“I urge regulatory bodies—simplify the regulations. Let me repeat: simplify the regulations!” Prabowo said. “Create the best possible investment climate for all parties, both foreign and domestic.”
Prabowo said the government’s sovereign wealth fund, Danantara Indonesia Investment Authority, is prepared to make strategic investments in oil and gas projects. He encouraged global investors to collaborate with Danantara to help unlock Indonesia’s energy potential.
“I invite everyone, both from within and outside the country to take advantage of the opportunities we’re offering,” he said. “We’ve prepared a large investment fund through Danantara Indonesia, which is ready to invest strategically in energy projects alongside our partners from abroad to meet our energy needs.”
