Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Indonesia and Brazil have agreed to strengthen strategic cooperation across key sectors, including mining, science and technology, and energy transition.
The commitment was formalized through the signing of memorandums of understanding and cooperation agreements witnessed by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
The agreements, part of President Lula’s state visit to Indonesia, mark a new chapter in bilateral relations aimed at building a more comprehensive and mutually beneficial strategic partnership.
“Today, we are signing four important agreements, and I believe this demonstrates that we are working swiftly. I am confident that in the near future, we will achieve even greater progress,” President Prabowo said during the bilateral meeting.
The memorandums of understanding and cooperation agreements between the two governments cover several strategic areas:
- Energy and Mining Cooperation between Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and Brazil’s Ministry of Mines and Energy.
- Science, Technology, and Innovation Cooperation between Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and Brazil’s Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation.
- Sanitary and Phytosanitary Cooperation between Indonesia’s Quarantine Agency and Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.
- Statistical Cooperation between Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and Brazil’s Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

- PT Danantara Investment Management (Persero) and JBS N.V., to explore and negotiate potential investment transactions.
- PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) and J&F S.A., to conduct feasibility studies for hydropower development supporting Indonesia’s energy transition.
- PT Pertamina (Persero) and Fluxus Holding S.A., to explore potential cooperation in the energy sector.
- The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (APEX), to strengthen trade promotion between the two countries.
President Prabowo described the bilateral meeting as “intensive and productive,” underscoring both nations’ shared commitment to advancing their roles as emerging economic powers in the Global South.
He added that Indonesia and Brazil also agreed to move toward establishing a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), similar to those Indonesia has developed with the European Union and Canada.
