Jakarta, IndonesiaSentinel.com — Indonesia’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, officially appointed Tri Winarno as the new Director General of Minerals and Coal (Dirjen Minerba) during a ceremony at the ESDM Ministry in Jakarta on Friday, September 20, 2024.
Tri Winarno replaces Ridwan Djamaluddin, who was implicated in a corruption case involving the illegal mining of nickel ore under PT Antam’s mining permit at Mandiodo Block, North Konawe, between 2021 and 2023.
“With this, I, as the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, have officially appointed Tri Winarno as the new Director General of Minerals and Coal,” said Bahlil after administering the oath of office at the ESDM Ministry.
Tri Winarno’s Extensive Background in Mining
Tri Winarno is no stranger to the ESDM Ministry. From 2022 to early 2024, he served as Director of Program Supervision in Mineral Mining Operations. He also held the position of Head of Sub-Directorate for Minerba Revenue Oversight from 2017 to 2022.
Winarno earned his PhD in Mining Engineering from Freiberg University of Mining and Technology in 2016. He also holds a Master’s degree in Geology from Gajah Mada University and a Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering from UPN Veteran Yogyakarta.
Ridwan Djamaluddin’s Conviction
Ridwan Djamaluddin was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for his role in the nickel mining corruption scandal in North Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi. The case involved the misuse of mining permits and illegal extraction of nickel ore, resulting in significant losses for the state.
“The court sentences the defendant Ridwan Djamaluddin to three years and six months in prison,” said Chief Judge Fahzal Hendri during the verdict at the Jakarta Corruption Court on April 25, 2024.
Judge Fahzal stated that Ridwan had been proven guilty of engaging in corrupt activities alongside other officials, in accordance with the prosecution’s charges.
