Fuzhou – Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono is exploring potential cooperation in the fisheries sector with the government of Fuzhou City, People’s Republic of China.

Fuzhou is the capital of Fujian Province and is nicknamed the Maritime City due to its location and the rapid development of its marine industry.

“This morning we had a chance to review several fishing industries in Fuzhou and we see that Indonesia can work together and there are many Indonesian fishery products that can be exported to Fuzhou,” said Minister Trenggono when meeting Member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) of Fujian Province who is also Secretary of the Fuzhou CPC Committee, Lin Bao Jin in Fuzhou, Friday (5/26/2023).

Trenggono’s visit to Fuzhou was in the framework of the Two Countries Twin Park cooperation between the Government of Indonesia and China, especially in the field of marine and fisheries. Minister Trenggono also met with the Mayor of Fuzhou City People’s Government Mr. Wu Xiande, as well as a number of fisheries industry players.

China is a strategic market for Indonesian fishery products, where last year’s export value reached USD1.12 billion or increased 26.29% from 2021. The main export fishery products include shrimp, squid cuttlefish octopus, seaweed, and king crab.

In addition to the potential for trade cooperation, Trenggono offered cooperation in other fields such as aquaculture, capture fisheries, and the processing industry to be developed in Indonesia.

“Indonesia also has large capture and aquaculture fisheries resources, supported by attractive bays and extensive coasts. Indonesia’s fisheries governance also prioritizes blue economy principles that prioritize sustainability,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Lin Bao Jin, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China of Fujian Province and Secretary of the Fuzhou Municipal Committee, welcomed the proposed work in the fisheries sector between the MMAF and the Fuzhou Government.

Moreover, both have the same commitment in maintaining the sustainability of marine ecology, and already have a larger cooperation umbrella, namely Two Countries Twin Park.

“We have good opinions about deepening strategic cooperation between China and Indonesia, deepening the implementation of “Two Countries, Two Parks” development, and strengthening exchanges and exchanges between Indonesia and Fuzhou, Fujian Province,” said Lin Bao Jin.

Special Assistant to the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Doni Ismanto added that during his work agenda in Fuzhou, Minister Trenggono visited Hongdong Fisheries Group and Mawey Mingceng Aquatic Product Market, which are part of the modern fishing industry in the region.
