Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Education Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti announced on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, the Indonesian government is set to raise the salaries of public and non-public school teachers. The formal announcement will be made during the National Teachers’ Day celebration at the Velodrome in Rawamangun, East Jakarta, on Thursday, November 28, 2024.
Under the new proposed regulation, teachers who are civil servants (ASN) will see an increase equivalent to their base salary, while certified non-ASN teachers will receive an additional stipend of Rp2 million ($130) per month.
“During the event, we will announce these improvements to teacher welfare. Non-ASN teachers will receive an additional Rp2 million, and ASN teachers will get an increase equal to their base salary,” Mu’ti stated at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta.
Targeting Certified Teachers
Mu’ti explained that the salary increase for civil servant teachers (ASN) will equal their base pay, with the exact amount varying based on their rank. Meanwhile, non-ASN teachers will receive an additional Rp2 million ($130) per month on top of their existing income from their respective schools.
The pay hike will apply exclusively to certified teachers, reflecting the government’s emphasis on linking welfare improvements to qualifications.
“These teachers already receive salaries from their schools, which vary depending on the school’s financial capacity. However, with certification, they are entitled to an additional Rp2 million in certification allowances,” Mu’ti said.

The National Teachers’ Day celebration, themed “Great Teachers, Strong Indonesia,” is set to highlight the pivotal role of educators in national development. The ceremony, scheduled for Thursday afternoon, will feature an address by President Prabowo Subianto.
“We are hosting the National Teachers’ Day celebration on November 28, from 3 to 5 p.m., at the Velodrome in Rawamangun. We have invited the President to open the event and provide guidance for this special occasion,” Mu’ti said.
