Bandung, IndonesiaSentinel — Indonesia will host its first-ever Microsoft Excel World Championship (MEWC) Stage on October 5, 2024. The tournament is part of the qualification rounds for the global MEWC competition, organized by the Financial Modeling World Cup (FMWC), which will culminate in the finals in Las Vegas, USA.
The MEWC Indonesia Stage marks a collaboration between asset management company Pos Properti and the Financial Modeling World Cup, the organization behind this unique Excel-based competition.
The Microsoft Excel World Championship has rapidly grown in popularity as a unique esports competition since its inception. What started as a niche event has evolved into a global contest, with participants from all over the world showcasing their Excel skills in competitive environments.
The Microsoft Excel World Championship is an esports-style tournament centered around Microsoft Excel. Each round challenges participants with a range of problem-solving questions, all solvable using Excel’s powerful functions.
Contestants earn points based on the complexity of the tasks, which require skills in data management, Excel functions, and logical thinking. Despite the financial modeling focus of the global competition, the problems presented in the MEWC do not demand specific expertise in finance, engineering, or other scientific disciplines.
MEWC 2024 is open to any participant regardless of age, gender, race, place of living, or any other limiting factor. For the Indonesia Stage, the tournament will open for 3 categories: rookie, professional, and state owned enterprise (BUMN) category.

- Rookie Category – Open to university students from associate’s degree to PhD levels.
- Professional Category – Open to the general public.
- State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Category – Specifically for BUMN delegates interested in participating.
Indonesia Stage Time Line
The MEWC Indonesia Stage will kick off with online qualifiers on October 5, 2024, followed by the semifinals and finals, which will be held offline at Point Arena in Jakarta on October 13, 2024. Winners from each category will earn a coveted spot to represent Indonesia at the Microsoft Excel World Championship 2024 in Las Vegas, scheduled for December 2-4, 2024.
Microsoft Excel Championship Prize Pool
Winners of the Indonesia Stage will receive the Microsoft Excel World Championship trophy, a certificate, the largest share of the Rp 15 million prize pool, and the honor of representing Indonesia at the MEWC 2024 finals in Las Vegas.
The prize pool for the Microsoft Excel World Championship (MEWC) finals in Las Vegas will total $37,500, equivalent to approximately Rp 574.9 million. The winner of the global competition will take home $5,000, or around Rp 76.6 million.
