Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel – authorities from the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal (DGMC) at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources have launched an investigation into activities illegal mining North Sumatra at Dusun I, Bekulap Village, Selesai District, Langkat Regency, .
This investigation began on October 24, 2024, following community reports of disruptions to the operations of a legitimate mining company holding a Mining Business License (IUP), which hindered their ability to sell materials.
The investigation team, led by Secretary Sulistiyohadi of the DGMC, uncovered evidence of unlicensed ilegal Mining North Sumatra in that is suspected to have been ongoing for an extended period. “Upon inspection, we found illegal mining activities occurring just 200 meters from a licensed mining site,” Sulistiyohadi stated in a press release on October 28, 2024.
While no individuals were present at the site during the inspection, investigators ilegal mining North Sumatra discovered various mining equipment, including dump trucks and excavators, as well as remnants of mining operations and sifted rock and sand materials. The evidence suggests that these illegal activities may have been in operation for over a year.
In response, the DGMC has taken immediate action by erecting prohibition signs at three locations associated with the illegal mining North Sumatra operations. “If these illegal mining activities continue to persist, we will escalate the investigation and pursue legal action against those involved,” Sulistiyohadi warned.
The authorities are urging the operators of these illegal mining activities to promptly obtain the necessary permits from the North Sumatra provincial government. Licensing for sand and stone commodities has been delegated to local authorities to streamline the process.
