Jakarta, IndonesiaSentinel.com — Indonesian singer and diva Krisdayanti has unexpectedly withdrawn from her candidacy for the mayor of Batu City. The announcement came after PDI-P Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri had previously endorsed her.
Krisdayanti had been slated to run for the mayoral position in Batu City, having been paired with Kresna Dewanata Phrosakh from the Nasdem Party by Megawati Soekarnoputri and the PDIP Central Leadership Council (DPP).
The withdrawal was announced by Krisdayanti, also known as KD, via her Instagram story on Thursday night, August 22, 2024. In her Instagram story, KD apologized to the people of Batu City and to Megawati Soekarnoputri.

“With a humble heart, I apologize for not pursuing the mayoral candidacy for Batu City. I extend my deepest apologies to the PDIP party, the Chairwoman, and the people of Batu City,” Krisdayanti wrote.
The exact reason for the withdrawal by the Batu-born artist remains unclear.
For context, Krisdayanti had previously registered as a prospective candidate for the Batu mayoral race. She submitted her application form through her team on Monday, May 6, 2024. The form was submitted both online and physically by her representatives.
