Jakarta Indonesia Sentinel — A 23-year-old Indonesian man has been sentenced to three weeks in prison in Singapore for an exhibitionist act toward a flight attendant during a Singapore Airlines flight from China to Singapore on January 23.
The man was arrested upon arrival at Changi Airport after exposing himself mid-flight. Prosecutors sought a four- to six-week prison sentence, arguing that the incident occurred in a confined space and involved a public transport worker. The court also heard that the offender was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Incident Details
According to court documents, the man unzipped his pants and exposed himself while seated in the business class section of the flight. Investigations revealed that he had allegedly prepared for the act in advance by covering himself with a blanket and activating a video recorder on his phone.
When a flight attendant approached to serve a meal, he reportedly exposed himself to her. The crew member immediately left the scene and reported the incident to her supervisor.
Upon landing at Changi Airport, the man was arrested, and his phone was confiscated for further investigation.
Defense Argument
The man’s defense team sought a reduced sentence of two to three weeks, arguing that the act was brief, posed minimal disruption to other passengers, and occurred in a business-class seat isolated from most travelers.
Defense lawyer Navin Shamugaraj Thevar further contended that the defendant’s intent was not for sexual gratification and that he was not in a stable mental state at the time.

In delivering the verdict, District Judge Paul Quan acknowledged the brief duration of the incident and the limited impact on other passengers. However, he emphasized the seriousness of the offense, particularly as it took place on an aircraft and targeted a transport worker.
The judge also took into account the defendant’s remorse, cooperation with authorities, and written apology to the victim. Despite facing a potential sentence of up to one year in prison or a fine, the man was ultimately sentenced to three weeks behind bars for his exhibitionist act.
