Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — The Indonesian Police’s Internal Affairs Division (Propam) has taken over the investigation into an extortion case involving 18 police officers to Malaysian nationals during the Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP) music festival.
Police Internal Affairs Chief Inspector General Abdul Karim emphasized that the police leadership is taking this case seriously and ensuring that those responsible will be held accountable, regardless of the victims’ nationality.
“Following discussions with the police leadership, we agreed that the Internal Affairs Division will fully handle this case,” karim said at the National Police Headquarters in South Jakarta on Tuesday December 24, as reported by Liputan6.
“Whether the incident occurred at the district or provincial level, everything will now be managed by Propam. This decision aims to ensure both speed and objectivity in the investigation,” Karim added.
He further clarified conflicting reports about the number of victims and the financial losses caused by unethical behavior from several police officers towards Malaysian nationals at the event.
“Based on our investigation, we need to clarify that the number of Malaysian victims, as identified scientifically, is 45,” said Karim. “The evidence we have secured amounts to Rp2.5 billion (approximately $160,000).”

The 2024 Djakarta Warehouse Project was previously marred by reports that several Malaysian nationals attending the event were arbitrarily detained by police officers. The incident went viral on social media, with many attendees claiming they were extorted by the Police officers.
The Indonesian National Police (Polri) responded swiftly to the allegations and investigate 18 officers allegedly involved in the case.

Previously, Kabid Humas Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Ade Ary Syam Indradi assuring that the investigation is being handled professionally. “Polda Metro Jaya will take firm action against any violations committed by our personnel. There will be no tolerance for those who tarnish our reputation,” Ade Ary stated.
This incident could have significant repercussions for Indonesia’s efforts to promote tourism through large-scale events. The National Police have pledged to restore public trust through strict enforcement of internal regulations and professional handling of the case.
