Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto called for renewed commitment to a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, saying Jakarta would recognize Israel if it first acknowledged the statehood of Palestine.
Speaking at the High-Level International Conference on a Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine at the UN General Assembly Hall in New York on Monday (September 22), Prabowo voiced deep concern over the humanitarian tragedy unfolding in Gaza.
“Thousands of innocent lives, many of them women and children, have been killed. Famine is loom. A humanitarian catastrophy is unfolding before our eyes. We condemn all acts of violence against innocent civilians,” Prabowo said.

He reiterated Indonesia’s stance that a two-state solution is the only path to lasting peace.
“We must guarantee statehood of Palestinian. But Indonesia also declares that once Israel recognizes the independence and the statehood Palestinian, Indonesia will immediately recognize the State of Israel, and we will support all guarantees for the securities of Israel,” he added.

The president emphasized that halting the war in Gaza must be a the outmost global priority and said Indonesia was prepared to play an active role, including deploying peacekeepers under a UN mandate.
He also welcomed the adoption of the New York Declaration, calling it a fair and peaceful framework toward resolution. Prabowo praised countries such as France, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom and Portugal for recognizing Palestine, urging others to follow suit.
“The recognition of Palestine is a step on the right side of history. For those who have not acted, we say history does not stop,” he said.
