Jakarta, IndonesiaSentinel.com — Over the past decade, local governments in Indonesia have earned approximately $65 million (Rp 1 trillion) per year from geothermal energy projects in their regions, according to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).
Eniya Listiani, Director General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE), revealed that investment in geothermal projects across Indonesia over the last 10 years has significantly impacted local revenue streams.
“There’s a geothermal royalty paid to the regions, contributing to local government income. In the last decade, nearly Rp 1 trillion has been generated annually for areas hosting geothermal developments,” Eniya stated on Friday, September 19, 2024.
This underscores the role of renewable energy in not only meeting national energy targets but also boosting local economies.
“I believe geothermal development holds tremendous potential for increasing local revenue,” she added.
