Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — The Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA) is set to host the GT World Challenge Asia 2025 from May 9-11, 2025, at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit. This marks the first-ever four-wheel racing event held at the circuit and in Indonesia.
The 2025 GT World Challenge Asia will feature 66 drivers from 21 countries, competing across 33 teams. Mandalika International Circuit will serve as the second stop on the series’ calendar, hosting Rounds 3 and 4 just a month after the season opener at Malaysia’s Sepang Circuit.
Milestone for Indonesia’s Motorsport and Tourism
Maya Watono, CEO of InJourney, Indonesia’s state-owned aviation and tourism holding company, emphasized the significance of the event.
“The GT World Challenge Asia 2025 marks a major milestone in expanding Mandalika’s role as a four-wheel racing host. It also strengthens Indonesia’s national branding as a premier sports and entertainment tourism destination in Asia,” Maya said, as reported by CNN Indonesia.
As the event’s host, Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) is committed to ensuring world-class standards for track safety and team comfort. ITDC is also focused on delivering a seamless spectator experience, providing top-tier facilities, easy access, and an exciting race-day atmosphere.
“This event creates a significant multiplier effect, from boosting tourism and hotel occupancy to supporting local businesses and job creation,” said Troy Warokka, ITDC’s Commercial Director. “It also contributes to the growth of Indonesia’s creative industries and the local economy.”
Global Stage
According to MGPA President Priandhi Satria, hosting the GT World Challenge Asia at Mandalika International Circuit is the result of years of collaboration with SRO Motorsports Group, which has been evaluating the circuit’s readiness since 2022.
“This decision solidifies Mandalika’s appeal on the global motorsport stage,” Priandhi stated. “Originally designed for MotoGP and WorldSBK, adapting the circuit to FIA homologation standards posed a challenge. MGPA worked closely with FIA and FIM to enhance track safety and meet four-wheel racing regulations while maintaining top-tier standards for two-wheel events.”
