Bandung, IndonesiaSentinel.com — Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority (OJK) has announced that individuals found engaging in transactions related to online gambling will be blacklisted, effectively banning them from accessing all banking services.
Rizal Ramadhani, Deputy Commissioner for Business Conduct Supervision and Consumer Protection at OJK, stated that those involved in online gambling would lose access to all financial services. “We will input the identities of the individuals into an information system that will be accessible to all financial service providers,” said Rizal during the Online Gambling Eradication Declaration at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) on Wednesday, August 28, 2024.
OJK is collaborating with Kominfo and other members of the online gambling task force. They have blocked 6,000 bank accounts linked to online gambling activities up to this day. Once a gambler’s bank account is closed, their name will be added to the blacklist, preventing them from opening new accounts, taking out loans, or using any other financial services.
“We close the accounts. For instance, if ‘X’ is involved in the online gambling network, we block ‘X’s’ accounts across all banks in Indonesia. Then, that person is blacklisted and cannot enjoy any services in the financial sector. They won’t be able to open savings accounts or take out credit. It has to be this way,” Rizal emphasized at Kominfo’s office in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Rizal noted that while the regulation is already in effect, its implementation is still being closely monitored. This includes addressing cases where an individual’s account is used by others for gambling purposes. Those whose accounts have been mistakenly blocked due to unauthorized use can report the issue and seek clarification from OJK, Rizal added.
OJK is committed to actively participating in the prevention and eradication of online gambling, not only as a member of the task force but also as part of its duty as a financial sector regulator. As a preventive measure, OJK is actively involved in educating and raising awareness about the dangers of gambling, targeting both the general public and consumers in the financial services sector.
