Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — iPhone prices in Indonesia have seen a dramatic drop after the government imposed a ban on the sale of Apple’s latest model, the iPhone 16. While the newest series is barred from being sold officially, other iPhone models remain available in the market.

The prohibition stems from Apple’s inability to comply with the Indonesian government’s local content requirements. The Ministry of Industry mandates a minimum Domestic Content Level (TKDN) of 35% for electronic devices sold in the country.

As the ban on iPhone 16 sales remain, Febri Hendri Antoni Arif, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry emphasized that the iPhone 16 sold in Indonesia considered illegal. “iPhone 16 devices brought in by passengers for personal use are considered legal, but their resale in Indonesia is illegal. This violates the intended use declared during the importation process,” said as cited from CNBC Indonesia.
