Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Meta AI is set to roll out an advanced video editing feature on Instagram in 2025, aiming to simplify content creation for creators and users alike. Powered by Meta’s Movie Gen AI model, the editing tools would allow creators to “change nearly any aspect” of their videos using text prompts.
Earlier this year, Meta previewed Movie Gen, an AI-powered video editing tool initially described as a research project with no immediate plans for public release. However, Instagram head Adam Mosseri recently hinted that the feature is on track for a broader launch.
According to CNN Indonesia, In an Instagram post, Mosseri explained that Movie Gen would allow users to edit nearly every aspect of their videos with simple text prompts—from changing outfits and backgrounds to adding accessories like necklaces.
“I’m incredibly excited about Movie Gen, our early AI research model that enables you to transform almost any aspect of your video with simple text commands. I hope to bring it to Instagram next year,” Mosseri said in a post on Thursday, December 19.
In a short demonstration clip, Mosseri showcased seamless background and outfit changes, even transforming himself into a Muppet-inspired character. The transitions appeared smooth, though it remains to be seen how the feature will perform when rolled out to the broader public.
If Movie Gen works as demonstrated, it could become a game-changing tool for Instagram creators.

According to Engadget, Meta’s timing may not be coincidental, coming just days after OpenAI introduced its video generation model to subscribers. Meta has repeatedly stated its ambition for Meta AI to become the world’s “most widely used” AI assistant. As of the latest update, Meta AI reportedly serves nearly 600 million monthly users.
While Mosseri did not provide an exact launch date, he confirmed that Movie Gen is expected to debut on Instagram in 2025.
