Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Mike Tyson, the legendary former heavyweight champion, suffered an unanimous decision loss to Jake Paul in a heavyweight boxing match held in Texas on Saturday November 16. Despite being 58 years old, Tyson managed to go the distance, lasting all eight rounds against the younger Paul.

The fight took place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, marking Tyson’s first professional bout in nearly 20 years since his retirement in 2005 after a loss to Kevin McBride. This time, the former heavyweight champion stepped back into the ring to face 27-year-old Jake Paul.

The bout was scheduled for a maximum of eight rounds, with each round lasting two minutes instead of the standard three for heavyweight fights. Both fighters wore 14-ounce gloves, heavier than the typical 10-ounce gloves used in traditional heavyweight matches.

From the round start, Mike Tyson came out aggressively, trying to close the distance and land powerful shots. Early in the first round, Tyson connected with a solid left hand to Jake Paul’s face. However, Paul used his reach advantage effectively, keeping Tyson at bay with a series of jabs and landing a few right-hand shots of his own.

In the second round, Tyson continued his aggressive approach, while Paul responded by stepping up his game, utilizing his longer reach to maintain distance and peppering Tyson with jabs. The third round saw both fighters exchanging combinations, but Paul’s superior reach and youth allowed him to land more significant blows.

As the fight progressed, particularly in the fourth round, Jake Paul appeared to gain confidence. His jab continued to be the defining factor, outpacing Tyson with a higher volume of punches. By the fifth round, Tyson became more selective with his attacks, looking for counter-punching opportunities. A counter left hook from Tyson briefly shook Paul, but the younger fighter quickly regained control.

Year Gap and Stamina Difference

By the sixth round, the age difference between the two fighters became more apparent. Jake Paul, 31 years Tyson’s junior, maintained his stamina, while Tyson showed signs of fatigue. In the seventh round, Paul opted for a more cautious approach, wary of Tyson’s powerful counters but still managing to land several clean combinations.

In the eighth and final round, Jake Paul took the initiative, pressing forward with a flurry of punches. Tyson, visibly exhausted, struggled to mount an offensive and was largely on the defensive as Paul unleashed a series of combinations.

The match ended and had to be decided by the jury’s decision. According to the fight statistics, Jake Paul landed a total of 78 punches compared to just 18 by Tyson. All three judges scored the fight in favor of Paul, with one judge giving him a decisive 80-72 score, while the other two scored it 79-73.

This unanimous decision victory marks another significant win in Jake Paul’s unconventional boxing career. Despite the loss, Mike Tyson performance was met with admiration from fans, as the former champion demonstrated his enduring spirit and fighting skills even at the age of 58.
